Privacy
Spacepal runs on your Mac. Space names, notes, previews, window lists and time statistics stay on your Mac. We do not run analytics or ad trackers in the app.
Why Spacepal asks for permissions
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| Accessibility | Switching Spaces, moving and focusing windows, reading window titles for search, and placing name labels in Mission Control. |
| Screen Recording | Taking the preview image of each Space for the overview. Previews are saved as image files on your Mac and are never uploaded. |
| Automation (optional) | Only if you set up per-Space automations that control other apps, such as reopening browser tabs. |
What is stored on your Mac
- Space names, colours, symbols, notes and automations, in
~/Library/Application Support/Spacepal(or the app's container in the Mac App Store version). - Space previews as image files in the same folder.
- Saved window layouts and time-per-Space statistics, if you turn those features on.
- A
state.jsonfile that integrations such as the Raycast extension read. It lists Space names and app names, and stays on your Mac.
Deleting the app and that folder removes everything.
What leaves your Mac
- License activation (direct version): your license key and an anonymous Mac identifier, a one-way hash that cannot be turned back into your hardware ID. This counts how many Macs use a license.
- Update checks (direct version): the app downloads an update feed from this site. The request contains the app version, like any web request.
- Purchases: payments are handled by Stripe (direct) or Apple (Mac App Store). We receive your email address and the purchase record, never your card details.
- Launch list: if you join it on this site, we store your email address, the country your request came from and the referring page, and use them only to tell you about Spacepal.
The optional local API only listens on your own Mac (127.0.0.1) and is off by default.
