Short description

Spacepal gives every Mac desktop a name, a colour and a live preview. Press ⌥Tab to see all your Spaces at once, jump to any of them without the slide animation, and find or move any window from one place.

Long description

macOS calls its virtual desktops "Desktop 1, 2, 3" and gives you no way to tell them apart. Spacepal is a menu bar app that fixes that. Each Space gets a name, a colour and an icon that show in the menu bar and in an overview opened with ⌥Tab, with live previews of what is on each one. Switching is instant, without the Mission Control slide, and System Integrity Protection stays on.

Beyond names, Spacepal searches windows across all Spaces, moves windows between them, opens a project's apps when you enter a Space, saves whole sets of names as profiles, and connects to Raycast, Shortcuts, AppleScript and a URL scheme. It works with the native macOS Spaces, so quitting it leaves everything as it was. It is not a tiling window manager.

Key features

One limitation, stated on every page: moving windows that are not in front works on macOS 14.0 to 14.4 and on macOS 26.4 and later only. See Move windows.
